Most sites do not break.
They rot.

When we are asked to rescue a site, it is rarely one dramatic fault. It is four ordinary ones that were never dealt with.

01

Forty plugins holding it together

Every plugin is someone else’s code running on your site. Stack enough of them and you inherit their bugs, their security holes and their update schedule — and one bad release can take the whole thing down.

02

It gets slower every month

Uncompressed images, scripts loading in the wrong order, a database nobody has tidied since launch. Speed decays quietly until visitors start leaving before the page has drawn.

03

Nobody has touched it since launch

Out-of-date software is how most small business sites get compromised. If no one is patching it, the site is not standing still — it is slowly becoming a liability.

04

You cannot change anything yourself

A build that needs a developer for every price change or new page will not keep up with your business. The parts you want to edit should be yours to edit.

From brochure sites
to working software.

Four steps, no mystery.

01

Scope the build properly

What the site has to do, what it has to talk to, and what you need to manage yourself. Getting this right is what stops a build sprawling later.

02

Choose the right foundation

WordPress where you need to manage a lot of content, hand-coded where speed and security matter more. We recommend the one that fits, not the one we would rather sell.

03

Build and test on real devices

Responsive across real phones, tablets and browsers — not just a narrow window on a desktop. Forms, payments and integrations tested end to end before launch.

04

Launch, then look after it

Migration, redirects and search setup handled. Then patching, image compression, speed checks and security monitoring so the site stays healthy.

What our clients say.

Working with Ed Laycock and the team at Cumulus Digital to build our new website has been incredibly easy — a service second to none. I have been incredibly impressed by their knowledge, expertise and the speed at which they turned this around. Our new website has been well received universally.

Castellum — award-winning construction

Ed at Cumulus Digital was recommended to me when I started exploring having a new website created. This is not a world I know much about; they were excellent at guiding me through the process and hand-held me every step of the way. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Corinne — Baloolah Hair, Cobham

We found Cumulus Digital to be very helpful and efficient in handling our web site build and deployment. We relied on their experience to navigate us through the migration, and will continue to use Cumulus Digital for new requirements on an ongoing basis.

Website build & migration client

We started working with Cumulus Digital back in 2016 when we decided we needed a new, more up-to-date website. During the design stage, they recommended a complete brand styling change which we agreed to and have never looked back.

Client since 2016 — brand & website

Cumulus Digital understood our business needs and helped revamp our branding, literature and website.

The things people
ask us first.

Do you build on WordPress or hand-code from scratch?

Both, depending on the job. Where you need to manage a lot of content yourself, a properly built WordPress site makes sense — AssetQ and Castellum are both CMS-driven. Where speed and security matter more than day-to-day editing, hand-coded is better. We will tell you which fits rather than defaulting to one.

Can you take over a site somebody else built?

Usually, yes. We start with an audit of what is there — how it was built, what is out of date, what is holding back speed — and give you an honest view on whether it is worth improving or rebuilding. We have taken over and migrated existing sites before, including moving AssetQ into a Google Cloud hosting environment with downtime monitoring.

Can you build an online shop?

Yes. We have built e-commerce for a Cobham salon moving its hair and lifestyle products online, and for an electric motocross brand with a wide and varied product range. Catalogue, payments, shipping and stock all get set up so you can run orders properly from day one.

What about logins, directories and things more complex than pages?

That is the development end of what we do. Hersham Village runs a searchable business directory where owners claim and manage their own listings through self-service accounts, alongside village news and events. If your site needs to do something rather than just say something, tell us what.

What happens after launch?

A website is not a fire-and-forget purchase. Our maintenance plans keep software patched, images compressed and scripts optimised, with regular checks that the site has not been compromised. Plans run from bare-bones cover for simple sites to monthly care including content changes and new pages.

Do I own the code and the hosting?

Yes, entirely. The site, the domain and the hosting account are yours, and they stay yours if we ever part ways.

Let's build it
properly this time.

Tell us what the site needs to do — and what it needs to talk to. We will come back with an honest view and a straight price.
